RAJAHMUNDRY: A suspected ganja smuggler died in police firing in the Agency area of East Godavari district in the wee hours of Monday.
The incident occurred at Yedlakonda in Donkarai police station limits of Y Ramavaram mandal when the anti-Naxalite squad was conducting combing operations. Acting on a tip-off that some persons were smuggling ganja, a narcotic substance, they tried to stop a car but those in the car fired at the police who retaliated, killing car driver K Ramakrishna.
