RAJAHMUNDRY: A liquor syndicate kingpin in East Godavari district, Kothapalli Balasubrahmanyam alias Balu of Devasai Wines, surrendered to the ACB police on Thursday. The ACB arrested him and sent him to Vijayawada for production in the ACB court there. The ACB sleuths conducted searches at his home and seized some key documents, including income tax returns, relating to  liquor business.

"We arrested him at 7 am today and interrogated him. Later, we searched his home for further information and seized various documents pertaining to liquor business. We will produce him before the ACB court" said Ramakrishna, ACB circle inspector, Rajahmundry.

This is the second arrest in the district in connection with liquor syndicate scam after the arrest of Mullapudi Srinivas, an accountant with Balu's liquor syndicate, on February 2. According to sources, ACB sleuths grilled him and collected detailed information along with the names and designations of officials and others who received kickbacks from him and other liquor traders. Documents seized from Balu's syndicate also contain details of the names of those who have received bribes, it is learnt.
