PRODDATUR: In a shocking incident, a housewife tried to kill her two children by slitting their throats and later attempted suicide by silting her own throat unable to bear the alleged harassment of her husband.
According to the police, Guramma of Devangapeta in Proddatur town was vexed with the wayward ways of her husband Ramudu.
She was worried about the future of her two children Madhavi (12) and Mahesh (8), studying Class VII and Class IV in a private school.
Her husband, a lorry driver and a habitual drinker, used to harass her suspecting her fidelity.
On Wednesday night, when her husband was away, Guramma, made Madhavi write a suicide note stating that she and her children were leaving him forever as she was vexed with his harassment and suspicious nature.
She made her two children consume sleeping pills and she too consumed the same. However, Guramma woke up in the early hours. Realising that the sleeping pills did not work, she slit the throats of her children and herself with a blade.
At around 8 a.m., not finding Guramma outside the house as usual, her neighbours called her. When she did not respond to their calls, suspecting something wrong, they went inside the house only to find the woman and her children in a pool of blood.
They were rushed to Proddatur Government Hospital. The doctors said that the condition of three was out of danger.
Proddatur One town police registered a case and took up investigation.
