Followers of Kavuri resign from posts

Many Congressmen in West Godavari district have resigned to their posts in support of local MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, who resigned from the Lok Sabha on Saturday for not getting a berth in the union cabinet.

Union industrial expert committee member and West Godavari District Congress Committee general secretary Puli Sriramulu, Govardhana Parijatam Temple chairperson Vandanapu Sai Bala Padma and many others resigned from their posts today expressing their solidarity to Kavuri Sambasiva Rao.

Rao was elected from Eluru Parliamentary constituency in 2004 and 2009 general elections and had been serving the party since three-and-half decades.

He was hopeful of a cabinet seat at lest this time, but did not receive a call from the leadership following which he dashed off his resignation letter to the Lok Sabha.

The party high command’s move evidently created tension in his community and among the Congressmen.

And, many leaders are likely to quit the party if the MP would stick to his decision.

When contacted, Karvuri Sambasiva Rao told Express that chief minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana asked him to withdraw his resignation. “But then, I will not backtrack,” the MP avowed.
