Private college principal ends life in lake

The body of a 41-year-old private college principal was found floating near the Sailing Club in the Hussain Sagar Lake on Sunday morning. The victim had gone missing from his house on Friday.

Though police did not find any suicide note, they suspect that Dr Ravi Paturi, the principal of Aurora PG and Degree College in Chikkadpally, ended his life due to marital problems.

Ravi left his house in Tarnaka around 9.30 a.m. on Friday. He then came to the Necklace road by an auto which he used to hire on a regular basis. “There, he gave his purse, mobile phone, wrist watch and gold ring to the auto driver, asking him to hand them to his wife Megha Malini,” said Shanker Yadav, the in-charge inspector at Ramgopalpet.

When the driver did as he was told, Malini suspected something amiss and along with her family members, rushed to Necklace Road and hunted for Ravi. Unable to locate him, they lodged a complaint with the Ramgopalpet police.

Locals noticed his body floating in the lake on Sunday morning and alerted the police. They fished out the body with the help of swimmers. His identity was confirmed by Malini and her kin, after which the body was taken to the Gandhi General Hospital for postmortem examination.

The police said Ravi was having marital problems with his wife, who he had married 15 years ago. The couple have three daughters. Police have registered a case of unnatural death under section 174 of the IPC.
