Even as the kin of the Indian student who went missing in Philippines are anxiously waiting here for information about his whereabouts, his father has been trying unsuccessfully for the past two days to get a visa to reach the country.
Sangasetti Jayakiran, an MBBS third year student of the University of Northern Philippines, Vigan city, went missing on September 11.
His father Ravi Kumar, a hotelier in Vijayawada, has been waiting in New Delhi for a visa to fly to Philippines. Jayakiran’s mother Adilakshmi and other relatives met city police commissioner N Madhusudhana Reddy here on Tuesday and sought his help to get visa for Ravi Kumar.
Speaking to Express, Jayakiran’s sister Vijayadurga said though their father had produced the letters of MP Vundavally Arun Kumar and local MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, he could not get the visa from the Philippines Embassy for the last two days.
She said Vijayawada police commissioner had assured them of help through regional passport officer at Hyderabad Srikar Reddy. On Monday, Srikar Reddy had asked them to consult the Indian Consulate in Manila through mails and assured them of support from his side.
Jayakiran’s family members are accusing the university management of being negligent in informing them about the missing of Jayakiran, who left the hostel room on September 11.
“We got the information about his mysterious disappearance when his friends called us on Thursday (Sept 13). His friends told us that he had left the room with a bag and passport and did not return to the hostel even after two days,” said Adilakshmi, mother of Jayakiran.
Asked if Jayakiran had any problems, she replied in the negative. “We have also deposited Rs 12,000 in his bank account five days back for his pocket money. But he did not withdraw the cash,” she said. Jayakiran, a meritorious student, had dreamt of becoming a doctor since his childhood. He had his schooling at Ravindra Barathi and studied intermediate at Sri Chaitanya Residential Junior College. But when he failed to get a good rank in Eamcet, he joined MBBS in the University of Northern Philippines in 2009 through PS Rao of Saraswathi Abroad, an educational consultant in the city.
