Bhavani island ropeway foundation on January 19

Municipal administration and urban development minister Manugunta Maheedhara Reddy will lay foundation stones for four major projects in Krishna and Guntur districts on January 19.

The first is the ropeway project connecting the main land to Bhavani Island in the Krishna river, which is estimated to cost Rs 7 crore.

The Bhavani Island is located about 875 m from Vijaya Siri UDA River Front located on the northern bank of Krishna river at Bhavanipuram.

The VGTM-UDA will take up the project with internal resources.

The minister will also lay the foundation stone for Bodhi Siri UDA Hill Park at Sitanagaram in Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district.

The site is strategically located adjacent to Prakasam Barrage on the southern bank of the river with a scenic view.

The VGTM-UDA has resolved to take up the project on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.

Further, Maheedhara Reddy will lay the foundation stone for modernisation of VGTMUDA office in Vijayawada taken up at a cost of Rs16.5 crore.

The existing office was built in 1984 to meet the requirements of UDA those days.

The UDA passed a resolution in 2010 to modernise and develop the office for providing basic amenities like lift, parking, etc. The next project is development of link road connecting NH-5 and Nallapadu Road in Guntur. It will be developed as part of the zonal development plan to ease the traffic congestion.

The project costs about Rs 4.46 crore and will be excuted with the UDA funds.
