A sudden downpour disrupted normal life during the busiest hours in the city Saturday evening. Thousands of school children, college students and employees were stranded due to the rains and took shelter at bus stops and other places. It lasted for more than an hour and inundated several low lying areas.
The weather changed in the afternoon and it started pouring by 4 pm. Low lying areas of the city namely Wynchpet, KL Rao Nagar, RR Pet, Pinnamaneni polyclinic road, Kabela centre, parts of Ajit Singh Nagar, Kandrika and the low bridge were submerged.
RTC buses were unable to ply on Ganapati Rao road in I-town due to the 3-ft-deep water-logging. A few major drains were overflowing within an hour. Rain water also blocked the busy Eluru road as the side drains filled up with garbage, etc.
