Is the Congress high command leaning towards bifurcating the state into Rayala-Telangana and Seemandhra? Is the AICC leadership planning to introduce a bill to this effect in the Monsoon Session of Parliament? Sources close to Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy say yes.

Party state affairs incharge Digvijaya Singh called on Jaipal Reddy at the latter’s residence in New Delhi on Monday and held talks with him for over 45 minutes. Singh had assured Jaipal Reddy that a positive decision will be taken on the T-issue by this month-end, a senior Congress leader, privy to the deliberations, told Express.

The decision, according to him, could be in favour of bifurcating the state into Rayala-Telangana and Seemandhra by merging two Rayalaseema districts with Telangana and the rest with Andhra. The Congress high command, he said, believes this solution would be politically helpful in the general elections.

“The high command is planning to convene the party working committee meeting at the earliest to finalise the decision. The decision might be announced by the end of this month so as to introduce a bill in the Monsoon Session of Parliament,” Jaipal was quoted as saying.

Union Minister of State for Tourism K Chiranjeevi too said the party high command was doing its best to settle the issue once and for all. He said the party leadership might announce its decision soon after the CWC meeting which is expected to be held very soon. “I will abide by whatever decision our party high command takes on the issue of state bifurcation,” Chiranjeevi told reporters in Delhi.
