Two men riding a motorbike Wednesday shot dead the brother of a legislator in Andhra Pradesh's Mahabubnagar district, police said.

The incident took place near a bus stand at Devarkadra, about 125 km from Hyderabad. The killers targeted M. Jaganmohan as he was having tea at a roadside stall.

The victim was a brother of M Chandrasekhar, a member of the state assembly from Jadcherla in the same district. The legislator belongs to main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The wives of the two brothers had reportedly filed nominations for gram panchayat elections. Wednesday was the last day to withdraw nominations. Jaganmohan's wife refused to withdraw from the contest.
