Nursing student gang-raped

In a ghastly incident, a 20-year-old nursing student was gang-raped by an unidentified auto driver and some of his friends on Wednesday night and left her naked and unconscious in some bushes on the National Highway No. 7 on the outskirts of  the town.

A highway patrolling police team from Ulindakonda found the rape victim and shifted her to the Kurnool government general hospital around 3.30 a.m. on Thursday.Kurnool rural Circle Inspector Sreenivasamurthy told media persons that the victim, who had recovered consciousness and was still in a state of deep shock and managed to narrate the incident to the police.

The victim, hailing from Kolar in Karnataka, is a nursing student at Kankar  College in Kurnool. Her cousin, hailing from Darsi in Prakasam district, is also studying in the same college.

The victim planned to go to Kolar and boarded an autorickshaw around 10.30 p.m. to go to the railway station. But the autorickshaw driver took her to a place near Brundavan Engineering College, in the vicinity of the NH No.7, where he was joined by some of his friends.

They then forced her to drink  liquor and took her to a secluded place and gangraped her. She lost her consciousness in the process.

Abandoned naked under some bushes, she was found by the Ulindakonda police and was rushed to the Kurnool government general hospital in a 108 ambulance.

The police informed the victim’s parents and other relatives. While some of her relatives reached the hospital on Thursday, her parents were yet to come.   

The police have booked a rape case and have launched a massive manhunt for the accused.
