Unaccounted money of Rs 25 lakh have been seized in various parts of the district, DSP S Shyam Sunder said on Sunday.

The police seized Rs 9 lakh at U Rangapuram check-post in Madakasira rural mandal, while the cash was being transported from Rolla to Anantapur as the concerned persons failed to show the necessary documents for the amount. The cops also seized lakhs of rupees at Nallacheruvu and Kothacheruvu mandal headquarters. Police also seized liquor bottles in Puttaparthi rural, Talupula and Goruntla mandals.

Speaking to the media at Mudigubba police station Sunday, the DSP said that the police were discharging their duties effectively notwithstanding any political pressures in the wake of panchayat elections.

The DSP, who observed that it was a tough time to work in the district during polls due to mounting pressures from political quarters, was quick to add that the police were taking up their works responsibly.

Stating that the police have made all security arrangements at all the polling stations for the elections, slated for July 23, he  said the police have binded over 25,000 persons and have appointed three IPS officers as election observers for Goruntla, Amarapuram and Kothacheruvu mandals.
