15 Maoists sneak into forests

A 15-member Maoist gang, led by district committee secretary Mailarapu Adellu alias Bhaskar, has entered the Adilabad district from the Dandakaranya forest region in Maharashtra and are moving about in the forest areas of the district, as per intelligence reports received by the district police.

Following the intelligence reports, Octopus squad DIG VC Sajjanar held a meeting with the top district police officers here recently and asked them to hunt down the Maoists. Accordingly, the police have launched intensive combing operations in the interior areas of Tiryani, Khagaznagar, Kerameri, Asifabad Wankidi and  Dahegam and on the banks of the Pranitha river.

As per sources, three policemen were killed in a Maoist landmine blast in Gadchorili district of Maharashtra, close to that state’s border with Adilabad district, three days back. The police retaliated following which the Maoists escaped into Adilabad district. Tribals in the interior areas of the district faced inconvenience.
