Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was trying to divide the people of the country for the sake of votes, the BJP has alleged.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, BJP secretary K Lakshman said Rahul, who is being projected as the prime ministerial candidate of the UPA, was behaving irresponsibly and making hate speeches during his public meetings.

The country is passing through a tough time and instead of creating confidence among the people of the nation, Rahul was creating hatred, he said. People are surprised over the way Rahul was making speeches and are questioning his intentions, he added.

On the other hand, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was trying to unite the people of the nation, Lakshman pointed out.

Accusing Congress of encouraging hate politics, the BJP leader said the Congress has once again started its old game of divide and rule.

“Whenever elections come, the Congress start dividing the people in the name of religion and caste. It has the record of creating communal violence for removing its own chief ministers. It is a known fact that YS Rajasekhara Reddy has created communal riots in Hyderabad in 1990 to remove Channa Reddy,” he alleged.

Criticising the Bihar government for not taking enough measures to avert the serial blasts that took place near Modi’s public meeting in Patna, he said as there is no government in there the BJP will ask the Centre to direct the state machinery to take steps to ensure public safety.

Sardar Patel Statue: Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Patel, “Statue of Unity”, near Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat on October 31. The statue will be constructed as a tribute to the “Iron Man of India”, he said. Iron materials from farmers across the country will be used, he said.
