WARANGAL: The officials of the Irrigation and Command Area Development department, (Minor Irrigation), Warangal, are geared up for the launch of the ‘Mission Kakatiya’, one of the flagship programmes of the TRS government aimed at the restoration of the tanks in January next year.

Though the officials want  to take up the restoration of nearly 1,100 tanks of the total 5,865 tanks in the district in the first phase, the government may give nod for the restoration of only 20 percent of them, according to the sources in the I and CAD department.

It is said the officials have already prepared estimates for the restoration of as many as 300 tanks covering four divisions  --  Warangal, Mulugu, Mahabubabad and Eturunagaram -- and sent them to the government.

Minor Irrigation officials said that the state government had issued an order enhancing  the powers of technical sanction, tender approval and inspection before technical sanction of the various levels of the officers in order to ensure that the restoration of the tanks was taken up at a fast pace without any procedural delay.

While the executive engineers have been given powers to give technical sanctions for works up to `50 lakh against the existing `10 lakh worth works, the superintending engineers have been given  powers to accord technical sanctions  for works up to `1 crore as against the earlier limit of `50 lakh.

SE V Padma Rao said that the tender process would begin soon and added that they are expecting the works be launched in January and finished by July.
