VISAKHAPATNAM: Job prospects seem to be finally looking up for engineering graduates. Over 1,500 students from various colleges in the city were issued placement letters by different major IT firms Wednesday. While a whopping 900 engineering students from GITAM University got campus placements this year, another 549 students from Andhra University College of Engineering (AUCE) have been recruited in major software companies across the country.
Apart from many IT majors, more companies are expected to conduct campus placements in GITAM and AU for the fourth year BTech students. A few other colleges in the city also hosted campus placements conducted by prominent IT firms for which appointment letters were sent Wednesday.
This year, the IT recruiters are following different selection methods particularly language test, technical round, group discussion, HR round and separate online tests to recruit the students.
The training and placement wing of GITAM University is training students through pre-placement talks with IT experts for better understanding of the whole job process. The varsity is expecting to cross the 2,000 mark in placements by the end of 2014. University registrar M Potharaju said that the varsity was encouraging students to appear for GATE.
Andhra University, which has placed nearly 50 per cent of its students so far, is also confident about getting placements for the remaining BTech students shortly. Vice-chancellor GSN Raju said that students are being given industry-oriented training. A student of AU was offered the highest annual salary package of `8 lakh by ITC.
Good Work!
