Satellite Tech to Strengthen Irrig System

VIJAYAWADA: Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao announced that all the 41,000 tanks would be repaired and strengthened and about 25 lakhs acres would be irrigated through minor irrigation systems during the year as against 11.56 acres last year.

He was addressing the officials at the minor irrigation department state level review meeting held at Irrigation office in Vijayawada Saturday.

He asked the officials to give detailed report about all the irrigation projects and its related problems. Saying that CM Chandrababu Naidu is committed for the revival and strengthening of minor irrigation in AP, he instructed them to come up with detailed plans about repairs needed for tanks and the required budget.

“While about 25 lakhs acres ayacut is under minor irrigation in all the 13 districts, right now not even fifty percent is being irrigated. Impetus would be given to drip and sprinkler irrigation and water conservation will be the utmost priority. Even satelite technology would be used to strengthen minor irrigation system,” Devineni pointed out.
