Nakkapalli (Visakhapatnam Dt):  The government is contemplating attaching the properties of the accused involved in any sort of violence against women and give them to the victims. It is also planning to set up special fast track courts to ensure speedy justice in such cases, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said.

Naidu was addressing a public meeting of self-help group (SHG) members here Saturday, the second day of his two-day visit to the district. As many as 30,000 SHG women from across the district took part in the meeting.

The TDP government would involve all the SHGs in government works, plans and strategies in the next five years. It was also keen on protecting women and hence framing a special mechanism to reach women in distress within two minutes.

The chief minister promised to increase the revenues of the SHGs by involving them in sand mining activity. “Already, the SHG women in Andhra Pradesh achieved name and fame at the national level. Now, I am seriously working on increasing the revenues of each member and planning to send the groups to other states to learn business activities. All the SHGs should be doing at least `10 crore worth of business by 2019,” he said.

Praising the SHGs for building a strong organisation, he said it was among the few programmes introduced by the TD government during 1995-2004 which the Congress that came to power later could not scrap despite strong efforts.

To save the women the trouble of fetching drinking water from distant places, pipelines would be laid to supply water to all the villages by linking up the Godavari and Krishna rivers. A separate entity would be set up to execute the project, he announced.

Later, when he asked how many women were using mobile phones, almost all the participants raised their hands. But when he asked how many of them were having individual toilets in their houses, there was very poor response. Naidu then exhorted the women not to neglect their health and stressed that every family should have an individual lavatory.

He also promised a Tab to each SHG and cell phones to those who do not have one.

At the end, Zilla Mahila Samakhya presented a cheque for `50 lakh to the chief minister for constructing a new capital city.

‘My Wife is a Perfect Example of Women Empowerment’

Terming his spouse Bhuvaneswari as the best example of women empowerment, Chandrababu Naidu explained how she headed her own business successfully and added that a woman would help her own family in treading the path of success if she is empowered. “As I am in politics and had held several key positions, I told my wife to start a business to support the family financially. She floated a firm with just `4 crore and now it is making a turnover of `2,000 crore. Even my daughter-in-law is evincing interesting in joining the busi
