35 Anna Canteens to Come Up in 4 AP Cities

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh government, which has decided to set up ‘Anna Canteens’ on the lines of ‘Amma Canteens’ being run in Tamil Nadu, decided on Sunday to set up the canteens in four places in the state as a pilot project to provide food items to commoners at very cheap rates.

The four places are Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Tirupati and Anantapur. In the first phase, the government will set up 35 Anna Canteens in these four cities. The cabinet Sub-committee, comprising ministers P Pulla Rao, P Narayana and P Sunitha, which met at the Secretariat here on Sunday, took this decision.

The government wants to provide food items to 10,500 people a day through the 35 canteens.

After seeing the response of the people to the pilot project, the Andhra Pradesh government will gradually extend the scheme to other cities and districts in the state.
