In a letter to the Prime Minister, Subbarami Reddy pointed out that a special development package was promised for the backward regions of Andhra Pradesh, particularly Rayalaseema, and three districts of Coastal Andhra and requested that the funds be released immediately.

He urged the Centre to provide necessary financial assistance to the cash-strapped Andhra Pradesh and bridge the revenue gap of about `15,691 crore.

Reddy also wanted the government to declare the Polavaram project a national project and provide sufficient funds for its speedy completion.
