Uncertainty Looms Large on Medical Counselling Now

NTR varsity convenes meeting tomorrow to chalk out admission into UG courses

HYDERABAD: After the crisis surrounding the EAMCET-2014 engineering admissions has blown over with the two state governments reconciling to their prolonged differences, uncertainty now dogs medical aspirants who await the release of the counselling notification for admission to MBBS courses.

A meeting is scheduled to be held with representatives from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Monday. The meeting is being convened by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor to discuss admission into undergraduate medical courses, university sources told Express.

But it is not clear whether the meeting would take place in Vijayawada where the university is situated or Hyderabad where the seat of Telangana government is located.

Although AP Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas has been telling at several fora that counselling would begin by August 25, there has been no development in this direction from both governments. Every thing is quiet with officials too waiting for clear instructions from their respective governments.

Meanwhile, according to the Supreme Court’s order issued on June 30 this year, the academic session for 2014-15 year should begin on September 1 and the last date up to which students can be admitted against vacancies is September 30.

The Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC), which recommends the government on renewing the fee structure every three years, has not yet come out with any concrete proposal yet. The proposed hike in the MBBS fee structure is due for this academic year.
