Schoolkids Learn to Make Eco-friendly Idols of Ganesha

VISAKHAPATNAM: As many as 500 schoolchildren from the city took part in a clay Ganesha-making workshop conducted by the Gayatri Vidya Parishad MLBT School here Wednesday. Students, who came forward with the motto of avoiding usage of plastic and idols with harmful colours, enthusiastically made Ganesh statues themselves after the training provided by the organisers.

AU Fine Arts students and other school authorities handled the responsibility to train the students.

Secretary of GVP P Somaraju inaugurated the event. The organisers said that awareness against the usage of plastic idols would be created through this kind of workshops. Students at the workshop expressed their happiness over the programme, with many stating that they would be able to make their own clay Ganeshas.

Venkatesh, a student of MLBT School, said, “In the present times when  most of the statues are made of plastic and harmful colours that pollute water, the training has provided a great opportunity to make environment-friendly Ganeshavs. We have learnt to make clay Ganeshas now.” Later, the organisers distributed certificates to the participants.
