PSUs Kick off 44th  Safety Week, Accord Priority to Security of Personnel

VISAKHAPATNAM: As a part of the National Safety Week celebrations, the public sector units in the city organised functions and various competitions here Wednesday.

Visakhapatnam Port Trust: The 44th National Safety Day and Dock Safety Week campaign was launched in the docks of Visakhapatnam Port Trust Wednesday. A safety pledge was read out at all work locations of the port and ships.

VPT traffic manager K Satyanarayana stated that safety was being implemented at international standards and safe handling of hazardous cargo was considered the prime responsibility while operating ships in the port.

VPT secretary Naresh Kumar informed that the Dock Safety Week would end on March 10. During the week, various safety awareness programmes and competitions would be conducted widely to encourage and motivate the employees, stevedore and shipping agencies of the port to achieve loss prevention in operations.

Deputy traffic manager B Ratansekhar was present. Port safety officer A Venkata Ramana administered the pledge in the dock area. On the occasion, the CISF unit of VPT in association with Lions Club of Visakhapatnam Blood Bank Trust organised a blood donation camp at its Kailasapuram quarters. CISF senior commandant KK Chaturvedi inaugurated it.

Hindustan Shipyard Limited: The Hindustan Shipyard Limited organised a function at its Hamsadhwani auditorium to mark the Day wherein director (strategic project) Ashok Bhal administered the safety pledge to the employees.

He stressed the need for every individual to be safety conscious and ensure strict compliance with safety norms at work places. He also emphasised that safety consciousness was essential to achieve accident-free production at all times.

Dredging Corporation of India Ltd: At the week-long celebrations of National Safety Day, the Dredging Corporation of India chairman and managing director Rajesh Tripathi administered the pledge. The CMD felt that safety should be taken as a lifetime affair and not only an issue during the safety week.

He stressed on the significance of HSE (Health Safety and Environment) across the world and in DCI, which helps ensure safety and protection of the DCI’s dredgers and assets. Directors P Jayapal (operations and technical) and S Charles (finance) also spoke.
