Rs 3.8 Cr for Summer Water Plan in City

VMC to install standby motor pumsets in 58th & 59th divisions

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has earmarked `3.88 crore to augment the supply of drinking water in the city under summer action plan and is preparing plans for quick completion of repair works to the pipelines on war foot basis.

Commissioner G Veerapandian has already instructed the engineering department officials to speed the repair works for the damaged main water pipelines in Gandhinagar, Srinagar Colony, Ghulam Mohiuddin Nagar and Machavaram areas. After inspecting these areas, the commissioner directed the engineering staff to alter old and damaged pipeline from Tummalapalli Kalakshetram to old Government General Hospital with 800 mm new water pipeline with `1.3 crore, released from  the Thirteenth Finance Commission funds.

As every year, the East constituency faces shortage of drinking water, the civic authorities are sinking seven more borewells in Krishna Lanka and apart from taking up repair works to the existing eight borewells.

“We are also installing standby motor pumpsets and 74 hand pumpsets in 58th, 59th and other divisions to avoid shortage of water. We are going to use more than 25 boosters in the city to supply water in hilly areas,” the commissioner said. The corporation is taking steps to ensure sufficient water supply in Gunadala, Patamata and Ramalingeswara Nagar areas.
