City Records 9 cm Rainfall, More Likely

VISAKHAPATNAM: With monsoon being active over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, heavy rain lashed across the region Monday. Rain occurred at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at isolated places over Rayalaseema over the past 24 hours with Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam district registering the highest rainfall of 9 cm in the State.

The Met officials predicted more rain over the next four days, under the influence of a low pressure area over West Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify further into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 48 hours. As a result, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at a few places in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

In case of the low pressure area intensifying into a well-marked low pressure area, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as isolated places in the districts of Kurnool, Anantapur, Chittoor and Kadapa of Rayalaseema. Strong surface winds from north-westerly direction and westerly direction with speeds reaching up to 45-50 kmph are likely along and off North coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as South coastal Andhra Pradesh respectively. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
