'Sirimanotsavam' to be Held on Oct 27

VIZIANAGARAM:  ‘Sirimanotsavam’, the annual festival of Sri Pydithalli Ammavaru, the presiding deity of Vizianagaram, will be celebrated on October 27. One of the most important festivals of the region, Sirimanotsavam is a month-long programme starting from October 13 and concludes with Chandi Yagam on November 11.

According to Sri Pydithalli Ammavari Devasthanam executive officer Bhanu Raja, the Tholellu sambaram would be celebrated a day preceding the Sirimanotsavm, while Teppotsavam would beheld on November 3 and Vuyyala Kambala on November 10.

Sirimanotsavam is one of the popular festivals in North Andhra region. A specially decorated 50-foot-long pole fixed to a chariot with the temple chief priest sitting atop it while devotees offer prayers, fruits and harathi to him is the most important and fascinating part of the festival. The chariot would go round the temple thrice covering all the main streets of the town. Over two lakh devotees from across north AP and Odisha are expected to attend the festival.
