City Gears Up for Vizag Fest on April 10-19

Book exhibition, cultural programmes and magic shows planned for the event

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizag Fest-2015, which is aimed at showcasing and promoting Uttarandhra’s culture and heritage, is all set to enthral Vizagites from April 10 to 19. The event will be held from 2 to 9 pm. The district administration is making elaborate arrangements to hold a book exhibition aside from cultural and literary programmes as part of the fest.

At a meet held here Tuesday, MLC MVS Sarma said that as many as 200 stalls would be set up during at the book exhibition in which volumes from many publishing companies related to literature, culture, fine arts and other fields would be displayed.

While literary sessions would be held from April 11 to 18, a few events would be held at Andhra University Engineering College Grounds, which has been named ‘Gurajada Sahithi Vedika’ commemorating the great litterateur Gurajada Appa Rao. Cultural programmes like traditional folk dances would also be conducted during the fest, he added.

Writer and Vizag Fest-2015 vice-chairman Ramatheertha informed that eminent personalities from neighbouring states of Odisha, Kerala and Karnataka would participate in the cultural events.

Street plays and folk dances by over 60 folk artistes, science exhibition for schoolchildren, magic shows, dance shows by youths, comedy shows and competitions in poetry, short films and photography would be the major attractions. Events like stage plays would be held at Kalabharathi Auditorium, while science expos and magic shows would be held at AU Grounds. Film actors Rajendra Prasad and Paruchuri Gopala Krishna are expected to attend, he added.
