Police Sub Inspector Suspended on Charges of Rape

ANANTAPUR: A sub-inspector rank police officer was suspended on Thursday for allegedly raping a middle-aged woman.

The officials of the district security agency, who refused to divulge the details of the victim, reportedly informed the authorities that the incident took place three days ago and there were wide spread apprehensions about the involvement of the police officer. The police said that the accused, R Ramaiah was working in the sub-inspector rank at Bukkarayasamudram police station.

He allegedly raped his neighbour, aged about 30-40 years. Anantapur SP S V Rajasekhara Babu, after realising that the apprehensions of a cop raping a woman were spreading wide across the town, immediately ordered for a probe.

“In the enquiry report, the cop was found accused and the apprehensions were confirmed as facts,” said a senior police officer. As per the enquiry report, which was submitted by Anantapur DSP Mallikarjuna Varma, Ramaiah was found guilty and issued suspension from his post.

Replacing him, GT Naidu was was appointed as the new SI of Bukkarayasamudram police station.
