VISAKHAPATNAM: In two separate incidents, the rural police seized about 700 kg of dry ganja, worth `60 lakh, and arrested one person, Saturday.
The Rolugunta police intercepted a four- wheeler and seized 500 kg ganja near Nindu Kunda junction. On a tip-off, sub-inspector K Venkata Rao and his team stopped a four- wheeler and arrested T Koteswara Rao for transporting the contraband to Narsipatnam Adda Roddu.
In another incident, Deverapalli police seized 200 kg ganja from an auto-rickshaw. However, seeing the police, the accused escaped under the cover of darkness. According to the police, the team tried to intercept an auto-rickshaw based on a tip- off. The smugglers refused to stop the vehicle and tried to run over the police in a bid to escape from the spot.
However, as the police chased them, the smugglers left the auto and escaped from the spot. A constable fell off the bike and sustained multiple injuries while chasing the auto. The police seized the ganja from the abandoned auto.
