Fun Club to Wean Kids from e-Gadgets

VIJAYAWADA:These days, children and youth are found addicted to modern electronic gadgets and in the process have forgotten to have fun and simply enjoy time with family and friends.

In a bid to give a taste of fun to such people, a city based NGO, Margam, has initiated a fun club, which on every Sunday morning will provide a platform for the people to spend quality time with their family members.

More than 50 members from different age groups shook a leg and played games for more than two hours at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in the morning hours of Sunday. Depending on the response from the residents of Vijayawada for the fun club, Margam is going to extend the activities to create more space for fun and entertainment in their routine lives.

“These days, people have forgotten about the physical activities or games like throw ball and old traditional games which we usually played in our childhood. Children  are spending their leisure hours getting addicted to electronic gadgets by playing video games and surfing all the time in social media. To create an awareness among the people, especially youth and teenagers, about the fun of playing outdoors with the near and dear and to provide a platform for them to spend quality time with their family members at least once a week, we have organised the programme” said A Lakshmi Annapurna, founder of Margam.

People who have participated in the fun club feel that the games they have played with their children and their friends have made them nostalgic. “After a long time, I have spent quality time with my family and children. These days, our children are busy in studies and what little free time they have, they spend iby being attached to gadgets. It not only strengthens our family bonding but also made us stress-free,” said Ch Rama Koteswara Rao, a businessman from the city.
