More Pay for Local Body Reps Soon

VIJAYAWADA:The APPanchayat Raj Chamber has expressed happiness over the government agreeing to increase the honorarium of MPTC, ZPTC, sarpanch and other people’s representatives in local bodies.

Speaking to mediapersons here Wednesday, chamber president YVB Rajendra Prasad said a mere Rs 750 a month for MPTCs as honorarium was a dishonour and they wanted the government to remedy the situation and increase it to Rs 5,000 for MPTCs, sarpanches and councillors and Rs 10,000 for MPP, ZPTC, corporators.

“Chief minister had agreed to increase the honorarium substantially, which might not be the amount that had been demanded given the financial situation of the state,” he said and added the CM will be making an announcement to this effect in a week or 10 days.

There are about 13,000 village panchayats in the state and for past several years, electricity dues were not cleared. Today, village panchayats in the state have to pay Rs 846 crore of which, the government had waived Rs 446 crore.
