Paper, Cloth Bags for Puja Material during Pushkarams

VIJAYAWADA: Endowment commissioner YV Anuradha has directed officials concerned to take measures for making Godavari Pushkarams plastic-free.

Reviewing the arrangements being made for the ensuing Godavari Pushkarams with West Godavari district collector and other officials here Friday, she asked them arrange paper and cloth bags for sale of Puja Dravyas.

It may be mentioned that during Pushkarams, seven different types of pujas are performed out of which three types of pujas require Puja dravyas.

She suggested the officials to engage DWCRA women for the sale of those puja dravyas. The endowments commissioner also said that a comprehensive system will be in place for procurement, storage and distribution of puja dravyas in the twin Godavari districts.

“Since a massive turnout is expected for Pushkarams, demand for puaj dravyas will be high and steps should be initiated to ensure a steady supply. Similarly, some rituals require vegetables and it would be better if they are procured from rythu bazaars,” she told officials.

West Godavari collector Katamaneni Bhaskar said arrangements are being made to ensure better facilities for the devotees. As many as 99 pushkar ghats are being constructed along the banks of Godavari river.
