Grandeur Marks Phule Birth Anniv

VIJAYAWADA/GUNTUR/ONGOLE:Irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has said that Mahatma Jyotirao Phule had striven to root out social evils apart from promoting empowerment of women. He said the government has decided to install Phule’s statues in Vijayawada, Machilipatnam and Nandigama.

Speaking at the 188th birth anniversary celebrations of Jyotirao Phule here Saturday, he said there was a need to install the statues of famous personalities like Jyotirao Phule and others who had worked for the uplift of the depressed classes.

In Guntur district, the officials celebrated the birth anniversary of Phule on grand scale and remembered the services done by him for development of the society.

In Prakasam district, ZP chairman N Balaji, incharge collector M Hari Jawaharlal  and others paid floral tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and distributed the bank cheques to self-help groups through DRCs and MEPMA.
