Murder Mystery Solved

VIJAYAWADA: Mystery surrounding the death of 32-year- old Velankanni, whose body was found at Siddhartha Medical College on April 7, was solved and her husband Chinnappa was arrested on charges of murder by Machavaram police on Saturday.

Producing the arrested before the media, Machavaram CI K Umamaheswara Rao said that on April 6 Chinappa, a farmer at Gudavuru of Kankipadu asked his wife Velankanni, working as a sweeper at Ayush Hospitals, to meet him at Siddhartha Medical College and asked her to come back to his house.

After a domestic spat with her husband, Velankani went to her parents’ house with her children and has been refusing to hear the pleas of Chinappa.

On the fateful day, both again quarrelled, when she met him at his request and in a fit of rage, he strangled her and fled the spot.

A case has been registered and the accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
