Rs 120 Cr for 10 New Ekalavya Schools in AP

HYDERABAD: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 120 crore for the construction of 10 new Ekalavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Andhra Pradesh.

According to a GO issued here on Saturday, the state government has submitted a proposal for the construction of 11 new EMRS at an estimated cost of Rs 132 cr to Union ministry of tribal affairs. However, after a careful examination, the Centre gave the go-ahead for the construction of only 10 new EMRS in the state.

The GO said that the objective of these EMRS was to provide quality middle and high level education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in remote areas to enable them to avail themselves of reservation in higher and professional educational courses and get suitable jobs .
