KADAPA: Police arrested eight red sanders smugglers and seized 15 logs along with an auto after conducting raids in Railway Kodur and Kalasapadu mandals Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off that sanders logs were kept ready for transportation in a forest area near Vagetikona under Settigunta panchayat limits, Railway Kodur CI K Pullaiah, SI D Ramesh Babu along with their staff went to the spot and seized 10 logs and the auto. They also arrested six persons - Dasarath, Ravi, Venkataramana, Praveen Kumar, Lokesh and Veeraiah, all from Settigunta panchayat.
CI Pullaiah said that as per instructions from district SP Navin Gulati, extensive combing operations were initiated in the forest and vigil at all checkposts tightened to curb sanders smuggling.
