VIJAYAWADA: With Vijayawada becoming part of the state capital, the focus is now on giving the thrust to industrial sector.

Collector Babu A appears to have set the ball rolling by calling a meeting with industrialists of Krishna district and telling them to set up ancillary units as a mega food park would soon be coming up in the district.

The collector wanted officials of the industry department to process and clear applications within 21 days. He said 18 clearances would be given through single window and that the industry department should be geared to help industrialists while they come to set up industries.

He said that under the Prime Minister’s Employment Guarantee Scheme, industrial units of the value of Rs 3.07 crore had been grounded in the district in 2014-15 as against the target of Rs 1.08 lakh. In 2015-16, the target was Rs 2.5 lakh industrial units. Meanwhile, Nekkalamgollagudem village in Agiripalli mandal has been adopted by a woman industrialist Kanaka Durga of the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of AP (ALEAP), Surampalli. The district collector praised Kanaka Durga for her decision.

He wanted her to take the responsibility of ensuring that each house has a toilet for which the government would provide Rs 15,000 as subsidy. She wanted the collector to take steps for desilting of tank in the village to which he responded positively.
