Thotapalli Water for Kharif Promised

VIZIANAGARAM: Irrespective of the pending issues, water would be released from the Thotapalli project for the ensuing kharif season, announced Rural Development and Housing minister K Mrunalini. She directed officials to speed up the works to provide water for irrigation.

Mrunalini Thursday visited the Thotapalli reservoir and its canals and reviewed the progress of the project with the irrigation officials. On the occasion, the officials informed the minister that the main and distribution canal works had been completed. However, the irrigation canals providing water directly to the fields would be completed soon. A total of 7,268 acres of land was needed for the project and the district administration had acquired 6,968 acres and paid Rs 99.82 crore as compensation to the oustees.

Meanwhile, the relief and rehabilitation works were completed in 10 villages at a cost of Rs 104.45 crore and works in another 11 villages are under progress, the officials said.
