Minister-MP Rift Comes to the Fore

JANGAREDDYGUDEM:The differences between Women and Child Welfare minister Peethala Sujata and MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao came to the fore at the mandal-level party workers meeting here on Sunday.

While Sujata proposed that the present party mandal committee, headed by Sheik Mustafa, should be continued for some time, the proposal was vehemently opposed by the supporters of Rao.

The MP’s supporters then asked the minister to replace Mustafa with TM Nageswara Rao as the party mandal president.

This led to heated arguments between the two groups and while the MP’s group denounced the minster, her group shouted slogans against the MP.

Amidst the bedlam, the police escorted the minister out of the hall.

Later, the MP group leaders went to the statue of party founder NT Rama Rao and tied a black cloth to its eyes as a symbolic protest.
