Jagan Accuses State Government of Not Paying Dowleswaram Mishap Compensation

VISAKHAPATNAM: Opposition leader in the AP Legislative Assembly YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Thursday demanded that the State Government pay the announced ex-gratia amount to the kin of the Egala family from Mosaiahpeta of Visakhapatnam district who died in the tragic accident at Dowleswaram bridge in East Godavari district 18 days ago. “The government must pay the ex-gratia amount within four days, failing which YSRC would launch a massive dharna to ensure justice to the bereaved family members,” he added.

Speaking to the media after consoling the Egala family members at Mosaiahpeta near Atchuthapuram here Thursday, the YSR Congress president said that despite announcing the compensation after the mishap that claimed the lives of 22 members of the same family on June 13, the government did not keet its word.

“The accident took place due to a bumpy road. The government had immediately announced compensation but has not yet keep its promise,” he said and added that he fears if the announcement was made for publicity and for the sake of formality.

“Though many ministers visited the place, the promised relief did not reach the intended people. If the money is not received by the kin of the deceased in four days, we will force the government to pay,” Jagan added.

He later left for East Godavari district.
