Guntur Municipal Corporation Tries Hard to Make it to Smart City List

VIJAYAWADA: The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) is taking steps for inclusion of Guntur in the smart city list of three from Andhra Pradesh.

Incharge GMC commissioner C Anuradha has asked the staff of the municipal corporation to work in this direction by fulfilling the criteria set by the Centre.

The incharge commissioner, after watching a Power Point presentation given by a consultant P Sambamurthy, said that it was necessary that the municipal corporation sends reports on meetings of stake holders and NGOs to the Centre and update development initiatives online, expenditure incurred on them, the salaries paid to the employees and so on. This apart, in all wards in the corporation, meetings should be held on the concept of smart cities and the reports should be sent to the Centre, Anuradha said.

“To make it to the smart city list, it is necessary that Guntur has facilities like housing, work places, shopping areas, schools, parks, play grounds, walking tracks and multi-storeyed complexes. There has to be 24-hour water and power supply, every house should have a toilet, effective solid waste management, wide roads and a good storm water drain network,” she said.
