MACHILIPATNAM: The government has helped 39,000 pensioners in Krishna district to save an amount of Rs 3 cr in two months by switching to a new thrift-based mode of payment of social welfare pensions to them.

Ever since the government has started disbursing enhanced social welfare pensions, it has been adopting different modes of payment of the same every month. First, it employed bank officials for the purpose. Then, to gain political mileage, it appointed Janmabhoomi committees to assist the district administration in the pension disbursal.

Now, it has started depositing the pensions directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries and, in this connection, it has provided 1,230 tablet PCs to the panchayat raj officials dealing with pension disbursals.
