TD MPs to Press For Changes in AP Bifurcation Act

Union minister of state for Science and Technology YS Chowdary has said the TDP would push for appropriate amendments to the AP Reorganisation Act.

HYDERABAD: Ahead of the commencement of monsoon session of Parliament, Union minister of state for Science and Technology YS Chowdary has said the TDP would exert pressure on the Centre to make appropriate amendments to the AP Reorganisation Act to resolve vexatious issues between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Chowdary’s latest remarks assume significance as he had on Friday, soon after the meeting of the TDP Parliamentary Party in Vijayawada, said it would be the responsibility of the Telangana government to bear the cost of setting up of institutions in AP, listed in Schedule IX and X of AP Reorganisation Act, which were allegedly taken over by it.

“Due to flaws in the Reorganisation Act, lot of problems are arising in the implementation of the Act. Hence, we would ask the Centre to amend few sections of the Act so that there would be no conflict between the two States,” Chowdary told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday.

In fact, cornered by the opposition parties for their alleged failure in convincing the Centre to accord special category status to AP, TDP MPs are preparing themselves to use the Parliament session to put forth their demand that the State be given special status.

“We are all (TDP MPs) gearing up to raise the issues concerning the State, especially implementation of Section 8 in common capital Hyderabad, special category status, amendments to Reorganisation Act and water sharing between AP and TS, in the monsoon session of Parliament beginning Tuesday,” said TDP MP Thota Narasimham.

“Whatever is due to AP from the Centre as per the AP Reorganisation Act, is being pursued and the Centre is ready to fulfil all promises made to AP one after another,” Sujana Chowdary said.

On the other hand, YSRC asked its MPs to raise the issues such as ‘cash-for-vote’ scam and the stampede at the Godavari Pushkarams in Parliament.

Meanwhile, APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy had written an open letter to the MPs of TDP, BJP and YSRC, asking them to put in coordinated efforts to persuade Centre to give special category status to AP.
