Unauthorised Arms Seized from Auto

SRIKAKULAM:  Yet again, drunk driving has exposed illegal activity in the Visakhapatnam agency area Monday, where Srikakulam police recovered eight country-made guns and two swords from an auto-rickshaw that overturned on the outskirts of Palakonda in the district. The accident occurred when the auto-rickshaw driver drove the vehicle in an inebriated condition. It may be recalled here that a couple of days ago, police uncovered ganja smuggling while rescuing the driver of a speeding car which overturned near Tekkali.

According to sources, eight persons from Eethamanupadu village of Seethampeta mandal had booked the auto to go to the forest area near Palakonda. They were on their way to hunt wild boars and were carrying eight country-made guns and two big swords. They hired the driver without knowing that he was drunk.

During the journey, the inebriated driver lost control over the vehicle and rammed a motorcycle. All the passengers fled the spot immediately in a panic, leaving behind the driver, the injured motorist and the weapons. Police shifted both the injured to a hospital and found weapons in the auto. The police suspected the auto driver of smuggling the weapons. However, the truth came out during interrogation.  Investigation is on.
