Over 26k Acres Pooled for AP Capital as Deadline Ends

Another 6,500 acres need to be acquired to meet the target set by the government

GUNTUR:Consent letters for parting with 26,700 acres of land were collected  from farmers till Saturday, the last day for land-pooling in Tullur mandal for construction of Andhra Pradesh capital city. Still, another 6,500 acres need to be pooled to meet the target set by the government.

Since morning, municipal administration minister P Narayana, along with agriculture minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, visited different villages in the notified area, urging the farmers to give their lands.

Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, he said land-pooling would continue till midnight and the officials were asked to receive consent letters till that time. “For the rest, we will invoke LARR Act,” he said.

He said the government was also considering to take the unauthorised layouts under the land-pooling scheme. Steps would be taken to address the problems of those who had purchased plots in illegal layouts. A decision in this regard would be announced shortly, he said.

Narayana directed the officials to take stock of poultry farmers in all the 29 villages in the notified area and submit a report within one week.

He wanted to know what problems poultry farmers would face due to land-pooling. Meanwhile, the farmers continue to express resentment over land-pooling.
