Girl Ends Life after Told to Discontinue Studies

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a tragic incident, a 16- year-old girl, who was forced to discontinue her education due to financial constraints, allegedly committed suicide in her residence at RH Colony at Madhurwada here Friday. The victim has been identified as P Mounica, an Intermediate student, who was found hanging to a ceiling fan when her mother was not at home.

According to PM Palem inspector of police  K Appla Raju, Mounica was studying  Intermediate at Kashyap Junior College at Rama Talkies Junction here. She was the second daughter for her parents. Her father was a labourer by profession and died last year, reducing the family to penury. Her mother ran the family. With the help of their family members and by borrowing money, the mother managed to conduct her elder daughter’s marriage last month.

On Friday, due to inability to pay the fee, Mounica’s mother asked her not to go to the college. While her mother went out on some personal chore, a dejected Mounica took the extreme step police said. The police registered a suicide case and the body was  sent for postmortem. Investigation is on.
