VIJAYAWADA: CPM city secretary Ch Babu Rao has demanded that the state government immediately release `250 crore due to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) under JNNURM funds. Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, he said the mayor should convene an all-party meeting to bring pressure on the state government for immediate release of dues to the corporation.
“The mayor should act as people’s representative and lead the all-party meeting and he should take sides with people,” he added. Babu Rao said the the state government and the corporation was confusing people over the issue of property tax hike. “The municipal administration minister recently announced that the corporation may hike the property tax but the Corporation officials are saying there are no such plans,” he observed.
