CPI Lays Siege to AIR Office

VIJAYAWADA: CPI workers laid a siege to the All India Radio (AIR) office here Wednesday in pursuance of a call to this effect by the party state unit to exert pressure on the Centre to accord special status to AP, financial packages for North Andhra and Rayalaseema regions among others.

The party workers, who gathered at the main entrance of the AIR, raised slogans for some time and later tried to barge into the office. The police, who were in full strength, foiled their attempt. The workers then began a sit-in at the gate and when the police tried to bundle them into vans, they ran to the middle of MG Road and held up traffic.
