No Allocation for Waiver Scheme

HYDERABAD: Though the Andhra Pradesh government claimed that it is committed to waive all crop loans taken by the farmers, it has not made any allocation either in the State budget or in the agriculture budget for the fiscal 2015-16.

The government claimed that an amount of `4,689 crore was credited in favour of 40.50 lakh farmers in the first phase and in the second phase about 42.16 lakh farmers are under consideration as part of its decision to waive all loans in the State.

In fact, many farmers were expecting allocation for the implementation of the second phase in the agriculture budget as it had not found place in budget.

At a time when the government is facing allegations that a large number of eligible farmers were not included in the first phase of the scheme, with no allocation in the budget for the loan waiver, farmers are a worried lot as most of them would be left out in the second phase.
