Fake Cop Arrested for Impersonation, Extortion

VISAKHAPATNAM:The district police arrested a person for impersonating as a sub-inspector of police and collecting money from the common public at Nakkapalli Addu Road Junction near the National Highway  Sunday. The accused has been identified as V Venkata Ramana.

According to Inspector of Police K Venkata Rao, Venkata Ramana alias Siva was found in police uniform by the duty police near the Addu Road Junction.

Posing as an SI, he stopped bikers and collected fines from them. The accused was arrested and taken to the nearest police station. Sources said that Venkata Ramana was a former Maoist who worked in Korukonda area, however, police denied the same as interrogation was still underway.

Venkata Rao said that they were yet to ascertain details about the accused, if he was a habitual offender or not and the crimes he had committed so far.
